From Kaohsiung Cruise Port to Taoyuan Airport: 3 Best Ways

By Asia Car Service

Back from Your Voyage!

Let’s face it, vacations are awesome! Having time away from your daily life to explore new regions, visit new sites, and meet new people can help create unforgettable life experiences. Returning home from a vacation, however, is not usually as exciting.

To help ease this transition, it’s important to plan your return trip ahead of time so it doesn’t become a nightmare! If you’re planning to take a cruise from Taiwan’s southern Kaohsiung Port, you may need to know the best ways to get back to Taiwan’s Taoyuan International Airport for your return flight. To facilitate this for you we’ve compiled the three best options below:

1. Kaohsiung Train to Taoyuan Airport

Taiwan’s public transportation system is quite comprehensive, especially because of the size of the island itself, it allows for better infrastructure and maintenance. As such, they have a network of trains and subways that allow passengers to travel from the southernmost tip of the island in Kaohsiung, all the way to the Taoyuan Airport in the north of the island.

Nevertheless, this route can get crowded at times, especially during peak hours when working commuters are traveling to and from work. You should plan your trip accordingly to avoid the extra hassle of pulling your luggage through a sea of other travelers. The route is as follows:

  1. Walk from the Kaohsiung Port to Sizihwan Station on the Kaohsiung metro (~8 mins)
  2. Take the Orange line from Sizihwan Station to Formosa Boulevard Station (~6 mins)
  3. Transfer to the Red line and go from Formosa Boulevard Station to THSR Zuoying Station (~11 mins)
  4. Transfer from Zuoying on the HSR and ride the train to Taoyuan (~1h 38m)
  5. Finally, transfer to the Taoyuan HSR Station (the High Speed Rail network) and take it to the Airport Terminal 2 Station (~17 mins)

2. Taiwan Car Service / Taoyuan Airport Transfer

The most comfortable means of transportation for anyone traveling through Taiwan is a pre-booked reliable car service. This is due to its high standard of quality that provides its passengers with professional local drivers, 24-hour customer assistance, door-to-door transfers, and a service tailored to the client’s itinerary.

Not only do customers have the reassurance of a trusted company that operates in over 100+ cities across Asia, but once a passenger registers their first trip, they become lifelong clients that (in just a few clicks) can book a service anywhere they travel to in Asia.

For Your Cruise Port Transfer

Say, for example, a family of six is going to Kaohsiung to catch their all-included family vacation cruise ship. Carrying luggage and traveling with children through public transportation can be very difficult to manage. This is a guarantee for a stressful beginning to what should be a wonderful vacation.

Likewise, even if this same family wanted to hail a taxi, they’d have to arrange for 2 taxis because each taxi only has the capacity for up to 4 passengers. In this scenario, a pre-booked car service could arrange for a minivan with capacity for 6 or 8 passengers and plenty of space for all their luggage. In this way, a little pre-planning can save the family a world of stress.

And Your Return: Cruise Port to Airport Transfers

To continue along the same example, starting the trip with the stress of maneuvering through public transportation or city taxis can be stressful. It’s no surprise that finishing a vacation with that same stress can leave everyone feeling poorly about the entire experience.

To maximize time and avoid any missteps, many travelers prefer booking both their airport transfer to the cruise port and their return with the same company, avoiding any stress or last minute inconveniences.

3. Bus

Kaohsiung to Taoyuan Airport Bus

Though the quicker, more convenient routes would be either a car or a train, some passengers with plenty of time to spare prefer taking the bus option. As such, we wanted to make sure you had all possible routes available for consideration. The following two are the options for buses traveling from Kaohsiung to the Taoyuan Airport:

Taoyuan Airport Bus: Option 1 (~5 hrs 18 mins)

  1. Walk from the Kaohsiung Port to Sizihwan Station on the Kaohsiung metro (~8 mins)
  2. From there take the Orange line to Formosa Boulevard Station (~6 mins)
  3. Then transfer to the Red line or walk to Kaohsiung Station (~10 mins)
  4. From Kaohsiung Station take bus 1872 or 1862 to Chaoma Station (~3 hrs 4 mins)
  5. From Chaoma Station take bus 1860 to Taoyuan Airport T2 (~1 hr 20 mins)

Taoyuan Airport Bus: Option 2 (~6 hrs 42 mins)

  4. From Kaohsiung Station take bus 1621 to Taichung Station (~3 hrs 53 mins)
  5. Finally, from Taichung Station take bus 1623 to Taoyuan Airport T2 (~2 hrs 5 mins)

In the event that you were heading in the opposite direction and were actually on your way to the cruise port, you needn’t worry, you can simply follow the inverse of the steps we’ve outlined above. After all, the stations and transports remain the same, the only difference is the direction.

The Best of Cruise Port Transfers

Ultimately, the best will always depend on the specific requirements of the traveler. For those traveling on a tight budget, the train and bus serve as plausible alternatives. Nevertheless, for travelers looking for the truly BEST experience, we always recommend a car service that caters to your individual needs and is available 24-hours, 7 days a week.

After all, if you’re about to go on a well-deserved cruise vacation around Asia, do you really want to start or end it on the wrong foot? Treat yourself to what you deserve and travel in style with your own professional driver.
