5 Must-Visit Places in Indonesia

by Asia Car Service

Indonesia is home to some of the world’s most beautiful places. Beaches, temples, volcanoes, and a vast biodiversity are only a few of the countless perks of visiting this island country.

Whether you’re in town for a day or a week, Indonesia is going to fill your eyes with wonders and leave you wanting to come back. To begin your adventure, we’ve listed a few of our favorite places:

1. Lombok

With glistening beaches at the base of lush green volcanoes, Lombok is just as remarkable as its neighbor Bali, but with less commercialism and crowds. Here, you can trek up Lombok’s tallest volcano, Mount Rinjani (Gunung Rinjani), and see the lake in its caldera that is home to Mt. Baru, yet another active volcano.

If you would rather stay closer to the beaches and work on your tan, or snorkel with turtles, you can head over to the nearby Gili Islands. These islands rival the beauty of the beaches in Bali, while also having the added benefit of being less frequented by tourists.

Jakarta

Though the capital city of Indonesia, Jakarta, didn’t make it into our top 5, it does deserve a mention, as you will likely travel through. If you do happen to stay a bit longer, be sure to check out the city’s Dutch colonial heritage site in Kota Tua (Old Jakarta) or the Old Market in Pasar Baru.

Bali

Another honorable mention is the world-famous Bali. This is probably the #1 place that comes to mind when Indonesia is mentioned. However, for this very reason it is also one of the most crowded. Tourists from around the world come to visit Bali for its scenic mountains, sacred temples, sandy beaches, and bustling nightlife. If you do happen to stop by, visit the Tanah Lot temple; you probably won’t be let inside, but it’s definitely a sight worth seeing.

2. Yogyakarta

Home to the Kraton Sultan Palace, Yogyakarta is a lively town of over 500,000 residents, and the most popular tourist destination on Java. If you love walking through ancient temples and city ruins, you can visit Borobudur and Prambanan, two UNESCO World Heritage sites.

As far as traditional arts, education, friendly people, and amazing foods go, Yogyakarta is known for its rich cultural and historical background. Visit the local markets and try different flavors at the food stalls to soak up the local atmosphere of this wonderful city.

3. Mount Bromo

Indonesia sits on the Ring of Fire, an area home to some of the world’s most active volcanoes. One of these volcanoes, Mount Bromo, sits inside the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park.

This volcano is equal parts danger and beauty, often surrounded by smoke and colorful skies. This iconic Indonesian landmark shares the area with a vast desert, lush mountains and hills, waterfalls, and flower fields that make for a spectacular view. Taking the journey up to see the view makes for a truly unforgettable experience.

4. Komodo National Park

Welcome to the land of dragons! Komodo National Park is comprised of Komodo, Padar, Rinca, and a number of other smaller islets. Together they make up the home of the world’s largest lizards, the Komodo Dragons.

This park is an UNESCO World Heritage site. It is also the only place on Earth where you can see these fierce and deadly animals roaming in the wild. These islands contain roughly 80% of the entire remaining Komodo dragon population, an estimated 4,000 giant lizards.

If that wasn’t enough, Komodo Island also happens to be one of seven islands in the world that have a pink beach. Red pigments from the surrounding corals blend together with the sand to create a soft pink tint on the shore.

5. Raja Ampat

Located in the center of the Coral Triangle, Raja Ampat (the Four Kings) is an expansive archipelago made up of over 1,500 islands. These islands host the richest marine biodiversity in the world!

Known as “the Amazon of the Oceans,” this secluded group of islands preserves its exotic and pristine qualities. All thanks to its remote location, and very low population density. For this very reason, Raja Ampat is also one of the most famous destinations in the world for scuba divers; a “diver’s paradise.”

If your curiosity to explore this collection of islands has been peaked, you will find it is one of the most stunning tropical destinations on Earth!

Getting Around Indonesia

Jakarta and Bali Airport Transfers

Whether you are flying into Soekarno–Hatta International Airport in Jakarta, or Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali, it is likely that you will be in need of a reliable Jakarta transport option to get you safely from the airport to your hotel.

Rather than haggling for prices with taxi drivers or deciphering the local public transportation, a trusted car service with a professional local driver can save you a world of trouble. Ride with the comfort of a car carefully selected to fit your needs. All with the assurance of 24-hour customer support, just a phone call away.

The Best Things to See in Indonesia

Choosing the best things to see and do while on your trip to Indonesia really depends on what you are looking for. You can trek up the volcanoes, visit the picturesque towns, or simply enjoy the quiet relaxation of paradise beaches.

Whichever sounds more like your idea of a perfect vacation, you are sure to have plenty of options throughout your stay. We hope our suggestions enamore you as much as they did us, and most of all, we hope you have a wonderful stay in Indonesia!
